Overview

Nepal is rich in wild life. The tropical jungles of the Terai preserve some of the best wildlife habitat in Asia. Out of the total geographical area of Nepal, 16% is occupied by national parks, wildlife reserves, and conservation areas. Jungle safari on elephant back is one of the thrilling experiences. Parsa Wildlife Reserve, Royal Bardia National Park, Royal Chitwan National Park, and the Royal Shukla Phanta Wildlife Reserve offer jungle safaris on elephantback or jeep rides.

Jungle Safari

First of all, Chitwan Jungle Safari is the first national park, which was established in 1973 and granted the status of a World Heritage Site in 1984. It covers an area of 1932 km and is located in the subtropical inner Terai lowland of south-central Nepal in the districts of Nawalparasi, Parsa, Chitwan, and Makwanpur. In altitude, it ranges from about 100m in the river valley to 815 m. Similarly, the Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour is two nights or three days in the heart of the jungles of Nepal. Located only 150 km from Kathmandu, it takes about five hours to arrive via a private vehicle. Likewise, the jungles of Chitwan are some of the most popular destination places in all of Nepal.

Recommendation

The Terai region can get rather hot during the summer months and temperate during the winter. It is recommended that visitors carry cool clothes, good walking shoes, a shady hat, and sunscreen during the summer. The rainy season brings mosquitoes and leeches into the jungles. Mosquito repellent, anti-diarrhea tablets, and anti-histamines can be handy during the summer and rainy months.

In the north and west of the protected area, the Narayani-Rapti river system forms a natural boundary to human settlement. Chitwan National Park is part of the Parsa Wildlife Reserve, and contiguous in the south is the Indian Tiger Reserve.
