Description

The Upper Mustang Trek -explore the Tibetan civilization of their characters along with Buddhist culture, till the last decade. It was prohibited region, rain shadow area with massive landscapes, charming locals and impressive sights with snow-covered Himalayan peaks. Upper  Mustang trekking region is the old empire of Lo. The headquarters of the Mustang district is Jomsom but the authentic Tibetan move toward district located north of Kagbeni. Classically referred to as Upper Mustang. Mustang Trek has a usual altitude of 13,000ft and is located to the north of the peak giants of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna and is so north of the main Himalayan series and physically is part of the tourist appeal of Tibet.

It was assimilated into the Tibetan territory under the most famous of the Tibetan kings Songtsengampo. It was an important means of the journey the Himalaya from Tibet to Nepal.  And gorgeous of the old salt, especially traders or pilgrims passed through Mustang. In good time for 14C, much of Ngari became part of the Malla kingdom.whose capital was Sinja in western Nepal. In reality, it became an independent kingdom in its own right, under the rule of Ame Pal, the creator king of Lo in 1,380 meters.

Upper Mustang Trek eloquent the particular nature of this old, tiny kingdom. The Nepalese have essential a supplement for anybody wishing to trek past Kagbeni, the border of Upper Mustang. With legal trekking groups only being allowable in for the first time in March 1992, you would be part of a small privileged alternative to an appointment this isolated settlement of Nepal.

Kathmandu Hotel


Firstly arrive at airport our GLOBAL TREKS NEPAL REPRESENTATIVE will Meet & greet you. Then you will transfer to hotel. After getting refreshed you will have lunch and have a short walk to Kathmandu Durbar square at day until dusk and at evening back to your hotel. O/N at Kathmandu.


Breakfast Kathmandu Hotel


After breakfast we will conduct a guided tour and introduction to our rich culture and fascinating history. You will visit with our guide of these places Swoyambhunath, Pashupatinath , Boudhanath.

Swoyambhunath: Swoyambhunath is Monkey temple which is approximately 2600 years old Buddhist Stupa, overlooking the entire Kathmandu valley. Swoyambhunath- literally ‘self-existent god’, is often referred to as the Monkey Temple due to the thousands of monkeys- the local dwellers. The main Stupa, memorials of monks and local people, ancient sculptures, temple of child protector goddess, monasteries, etc are the main attractions here. Moreover, you can throw bird-eye-view to all the monument sites of the Kathmandu tour since this is the highest point inside the valley.

Pashupatinath : Pashupatinath temple which is In We literally- the god of animal lives. As one of the must visit legendary Hindu temple in the subcontinent, this site welcomes millions of visitors every year. The temple is located on the bank of sacred Bagmati River, which runs down to the Ganges. Here, you get a chance to witness open public crematorium with all the rites and rituals being performed. You come to see even the holy men posing for pictures with painted face, dread locked hair and ash-applied body

Boudhanath : Boudhanath Stupa is god of wisdom. It is considered as one of the largest Stupa in the world. Constructed back in the 4th century, this Stupa is the must visit site for the Tibetans. The shrine itself resembles a Tibetan village since the locale comprises Tibetan monasteries and the exiles. Besides this, there are a number of painting schools with Lamas painting Thanka, the best souvenirs from Nepal.

And you will be back to your hotel and preparation for the trekking.


6/7 hrs Drive Breakfast Pokhara Hotel


After early morning breakfast, you will be picked up from the hotel and taken to the tourist bus station. Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (914m.) takes about seven hours. The drive will take most of our morning time, leaving much of the afternoon to get a warm glimpse of Pokhara Valley and its beauty. If you choose to fly, you can reach Pokhara in 25 minutes. There are several flights from morning to afternoon available from Kathmandu to Pokhara.


3/4 hrs B/L/D Kagbeni Guesthouse


You take the spectacular early morning flight to Jomsom, which is the district headquarters of Mustang. The trekking trail is quite barren with craggy rocks and sand and is mostly flat, which makes it very easy going. It is also very picturesque, with views of beautiful peaks all around such as Dhaulagiri, Tukuche and Nilgiri, whilst to the south can be seen the entire Annapurna Massif. Stay overnight at lodg


5/6 hrs B/L/D ChusangGuesthouse


You trek right up to the river valley, but you use a combination of the high trail and the riverbank pathways. The trail then widens significantly revealing an endless stretch of sand. Chusang village is only about a 2hrs walk beyond Tangbe at the confluence of the Narshing Khola and the Kali Gandaki. Stay overnight at lodge.


6/7 hrs B/L/D SamarGuesthouse


The trek now leaves the valley and climbs steeply up a rocky alley to the village of Chele. From Chele you climb a steep spur and then continue ascending along the side of a spectacular steep canyon to a pass. Beyond the pass you descend on a pleasant trail to Samar, situated in a grove of poplar trees. Stay overnight at lodge.


5/6 hrs B/L/D Ghaymi Guesthouse


You climb above Samar to a ridge and then descend into a large gorge past a chorten before entering another valley filled with juniper trees. You then cross a stream and after climbing to a pass, you descend along a ridge to Shyangmochen, a tiny settlement with a few tea shops. The trail climbs gently from Shyangmochen and you enter another huge valley before descending to Geling with its extensive fields of barley. Stay overnight at lodge


4/5 hrs B/L/D Ghami Guesthouse


From Geling the trail climbs gently through fields, up to the center of the valley, passing above the settlement of Tama Gun and an imposing chorten. You then begin a taxing climb across the head of the valley to the Nyi La [3840m]. The descent from the pass is quite gentle and about half an hour further on we come to a trail junction; the right trail is the direct route to Charang, the left trail leads to Ghami. Ghami is a large white-washed village sheltered by overhanging cliffs. Stay overnight at lodge.


5/6 hrs B/L/D Lo-manthang Guesthouse


You will spend early part of the morning exploring interesting village of Charang and its large monastery, before setting out for Lo Manthang. You climb gently above the valley to a large isolated chorten that marks the boundary between Charang and Lo. The trail then broadens and eventually you get your first view of the walled city of Lo Manthang. The city has only one entrance so you circumambulate the wall to the gate on the north east corner. Stay overnight at lodge.


B/L/D Lo-Mangthang Guesthouse


Today is also the best day for you all the trekkers where you can explore the Lo-Mangthang widely as you visit to the Namyal Gompa where it is the one of the most important monasteries at that area. You can have some hike for an hour to catch the view of local people of that places and can highlights the God House, Chyodi Gompa of Lo-Mangthang, also the king place. As you need to be safe because after an afternoon their will be the strong windy. At the evening you can enjoy the local food which can be newly for you. 0/N at Lo-Mangthang.


6/7 hrs B/L/D Ghami Guesthouse


You continue your journey on the highland route, crossing alpine meadows before dropping down a steep eroded alley to Dhakmar for lunch. After lunch, you walk through the pretty valley, climb to a ridge and descend from there back to Ghami. Stay overnight at lodge.


5/6 hrs B/L/D Samar Guesthouse


Leaving Ghami you begin to follow narrow winding path until you reach Geling crossing a small stream. Samar is a small village with terraces, Tibetan style houses, Mani walls, monastery, and prayer flags and here you find people following Tibetan life styles and traditions. Stay overnight at lodge.


5/6 hrs B/L/D Kagbeni guesthouse


You walk along the bank of Kali Gandaki with views of natural vegetation and apple orchards. Stay overnight at lodge.


6/7 hrs B/L/D Jomsom Guesthouse


Your trail passes through the bank of Kali Gandaki passing through Ekle Bhatti. Jomsom is the headquarters of Mustang. From here you can have access to the internet and banking facilities. Stay overnight at hotel.


Breakfast Pokhara Hotel


After taking an early breakfast you will take a flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. After reaching Pokhara can visit Fewa lake which is also known as the Talbarahi. You can visit Davids fall and some nearby areas. By the evening dusk you will be at hotel and have dinner .O/N at Pokhara.


6/7 hrs Breakfast Kathmandu Hotel


Today will be back to the Kathmandu by tourist bus on the day following the different places. You will catch the beautiful scenery and the natural beauty of Nepal. After reaching to the Kathmandu you will visit to the Thamel area where you can do shopping. O/N at Kathmandu.

Your adventure in Nepal comes to an end today! There is nothing to do but trade emails with your travel companions and organize your photos. A representative from World Favor will take you to the airport, approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.

Essential Information

The following gives you a general idea of the personal items that you can bring for the trek. The personal items as your individual interest, and choice. In a supported trek, heavy items are carried by porters or yaks and personal belongings that you may need for the day like money, camera, sun cream, water bottle, rain gear, and toilet paper etc. should be carried by yourself. So you are briefed to pack items in two different bags. The most important fact that one should keep on mind is that one should have enough clothes to tackle the cold weather in the mountain range.

(Note: We will supply complimentary water and wind proof duffel bag which you can use on the trek and is carried by porter/s. The duffel bag is yours to keep after the trek. You can leave your bag with your non-trek items at the hotel in Kathmandu and collect them after the trek)

Upper Body – Head / Ears / Eyes

Shade hat or baseball cap – of their head and then put a baseball cap on to hold it in place. This can be a flexible alternative while keeping the sun off your ears and neck.
Warm wool or synthetic hat that covers your ears.
Glacier glasses-100% UV protection with side shields and a hard-sided storage case (i.e. Julbo or Cebe). Regular sunglasses are not sufficient. If you wear prescription glasses, speak to your doctor about prescription glacier glasses, perhaps with transitional lenses. This is to protect your eyes from the rays of the sun due to the thinner atmosphere which can cause a painful condition known as snow blindness.
A neck warmer is another piece of gear for extra warmth if you feel you will need it.
Headlamp – Black Diamond and Petzl both make several good ones. Make sure to bring extra batteries and that they are lithium batteries so that they will last in the colder temperatures. These are indispensable for getting around at night, reading, etc.
Balaclava – lightweight, thinner variety
Some people like ear-muffs; these are optional; a good hat, balaclava, and hooded jacket should really be sufficient, but this is a personal choice for some people.

Hand

1 pair liner gloves, thin wool or synthetic, useful alone a days or as a layer inside other gloves/mitts for additional warmth.
1 pair of warm gloves (heavier fleece or wool).
1 pair shell gloves or mitts; Gore-Tex is preferred for keeping hands dry.
Instant hand warmers are always nice in a pinch, but really shouldn’t be necessary on the trek. Bringing appropriate hand protection as recommended above, should be sufficient (optional).

Core Body

T-shirts (2/3)
Light and expedition w)eight thermal tops.
Fleece jacket or pullover.
Fleece Wind-Stopper jacket (optional).
Waterproof (preferably breathable fabric) shell jacket.
2 women sports bras, Synthetic, no cotton!

Lower Body – Legs

2 pairs nylon hiking shorts – Quick drying type, not cotton!
Underwear, stay away from cotton. (4/5)
1 pair soft shell pants – synthetic, full zip from top and bottom preferable.
2 pairs trekking pants, the knees so they double as shorts.
1 pair of hard shell pants. Waterproof/breathable, Gore-Tex or equivalent is best. Should zip from the top and bottom – this makes it easier to put on over boots without getting undressed should the weather change once you are underway for the day.
1 pair of cotton pants (loose jeans/khakis).
2 pairs of lightweight long underwear – Capilene or other synthetic.
All clothing should be kept dry using waterproof stuff sacks or large puncture resistant plastic bags.

Feet

4/5 pairs of liner socks, synthetic or capilene.
3/4 pairs heavy weight socks to be worn over liner socks.
1 pair light weight socks, a good option for the lower / warmer parts of the treks.
1 pair light to medium weight water proof hiking/trekking boots.
1 pair of light trekking shoes or sneakers. Good for around the camp/lodges and in Kathmandu.
1 pair hiking gaiters, good for keeping dust and rocks out of your shoes /boots as well as keep your feet dry as necessary (Optional).
1 pair of sandals (Optional).

Medicines and First Aid Kits

(Please note WT guide will also carry the first aid kit bag during the trek. However, we still recommend you to bring your personal first aid kit as well)

Extra Strength Excedrin for altitude related headaches.
Buprofen for general aches and pains.
Immodium or Pepto bismol capsules for upset stomach or diarrhea.
Diamox (commonly prescribed as Acetazolamide) 125 or 250 mg tablets for altitude sickness. Please discuss with us before starting to take this medicine.
1 small personal sized first-aid kit with blister treatments such as mole skin, band-aids, some waterproof tape, anti-infection ointments, etc. your guides will have more extensive medical gear, but you should have the basics for general use.

Most Necessary Documents/Materials

Passport and extra passport photos (4 copies).
Airline ticket (Please make a copy and leave on at our office in KTM just in case if you need to change the date of your).
Durable wallet/pouch for travel documents, money & passport.
Lip balm. At least SPF 20, 2 sticks. A string taped to the stick is helpful, to hang around your neck and some are now being sold with a cord already attached. Handy as it avoids you from having to stop and look for it.
Sunscreen. SPF 40 is recommended and should be relatively new since it loses its’ effectiveness over time.
Pocket knife or small Swiss Army type.
Water purification Iodine tablets or Polar-pure crystals.
Toiletry kit. Be sure to include toilet paper stored in a plastic bag, hand wipes, and liquid hand sanitizer, towel, soap, etc.
2 bandanas.

Optional

1 pair adjustable trekking poles. Although these are listed as optional, these can be of great assistance to people who may think of themselves and generally clumsy or with bad knees, ankles, etc, especially when going downhill (Optional).
Binoculars (Optional).
Favorite snack foods, no more than 2 pounds (Optional).
Paperback books, cards, mp3 player (there are a couple of stops where you could recharge. Avoid players with moving hardware as it may not function. Remember, keep these items lightweight) (Optional).
Hydration bladder with a drinking tube and tube insulator (Optional).
A pee bottle for men and pee funnel for a woman, some swear by them to avoid that chilly late night trip (Optional).
1 small stainless steel thermos (Optional).
1 lightweight point & shoot camera or 1 large SLR. Digital cameras are ok, but you must keep the batteries warm when not in use (Optional).

Please Note: Tight fitting, figure-hugging clothing, such as those made with Lycra can often be offensive to locals, especially to women. If you find these items comfortable as a base layer, please pack something to wear on top of them.
